prof. Asaf Durakovic, MD, PhD, DVM, MSc, FACP

(May 16, 1940 - December 16, 2020)

Dr. Durakovic worked his entire life serving the people of the world....a guardian, protecting those unable to defend themselves.

Reeds

The reeds that offer hope to weakened life

By their far reaching blades

Stream towards heaven

To the lasting light

Away from the hopeless end

O heart that struggles against the dark

Stop for a moment, wait

When all your hopes are so certain and real

Like the reed’s gentle embrace

That the weak cannot escape

So at the end of these tall grasses

I stop before the lake

I’m ascending quietly to the endless world

When I gave free dream to myself

And so I praise the gift of my escape

Before this shimmering water

At the shore of Balkash Lake

Where the reeds gently hide me from the world

Free in my last escape.
